DOKOLA / WITCH DOKTA

I can’t say that I personally know this man.. What I can say is my brother in arms KO does, and so do a lot of artists I have worked with thru the years.. His talent, heart, passion, and strength resonate enough to where I couldn’t help but ask him for an interview.. He will also be performing at my B-Day Party at Toc Bar on June 21st!!
If you don’t know, now you will..

Conflict:

What got you started in music?

DOkola/Witch DOkta:

I’ve been into music since a child. Tha way the sound of a certain song takes you to a place..like I would know it’s cleaning time when my mom would be bangin’ Tejano music or tha way my Dad would jam Santana, Hendrix,Kiss, Ac/Dc… But I think I was hooked once my pop bought License to Ill..by tha Beastie Boyz

Conflict:

Hell yeah, raised with GREAT inspiration all around, huh?

DOkola/Witch DOkta:

Yea… I got into more styles of music like do-wop from my grandmother & also my music teacher in jr. High. Like classical, opera, afican mambazo, gagorian chants..like monks..i love all kinds of music! Just recently i’ve grown to appreciate country music.

Conflict:

I was raised with just as much of an inspirational, uplifting drive towards music in every Genre.. It creates a lot of transformations that can be taken for granted, when not given notice..

DOkola/Witch DOkta:

I feel like it’s helped my versatility as artist. I used to freestyle to techno, house, trance (kinda like Dub-Step) for money or practice. Folks would bet I couldn’t do it. The hardest or should I say the difficulty with techno music or classical is that the composition always changes, it’s not a loop, it doesn’t stay the same, so you pretty much rappin’ to tha way tha music makes you feel. I made some money doin it…but also snatched alot of fans too

Conflict:

I first heard of you from KO, Big Joe, and Lazz. 3 artists that I still work with and are inspirational to this day.. They had nothing but great things to say about “Witch Dokta”. That was 7 or 8 years back, in the Arsonist Days.. Which begs the question? Who is/was Witch Dokta? And who is Dokola?

DOkola/Witch DOkta:

Those are my homies… We’ve come along way.. I have alot of respect for them as people & artist.
Witch Dokta was given to me by a friend in Jr high because when I read my poetry everyone would pay attention…kinda like they under a incantation or spell. But Dokola Arlovski… I came up with while dealing with tha bladder cancer & pain between surgeries. I felt like Witch Dokta was dead. Tha direction I was goin with my music was gonna be more personal and more intimate. So i decided to change it up. Dokola is a mix of Dok & A1 yola…lol that dope. & Arlovski came from my favorite cage fighter Andre’ Arlovski.. He was a beast…& I am too.

Conflict

Hell yeah! That’s why I was excited to work with you on The’ Devil”, track and I had to see you on stage finally, so I had to put you on a show..

DOkola/Witch DOkta

Yea man I heard about you from my homie Whopper then KO. I been wanting to work with alot of ya’ll SPC-2g dudes…Just wasn’t sure how to come at ya’ll. Wasn’t sure ya’ll heard of me or even my music…

Conflict:

I like the whole ‘You Got Mail’ approach.. Worked for me..

DOkola/Witch DOkta:

I guess in my head I had already told myself I was sending a track to you…lol

Conflict:

Lmao

1) How long has it been since you wrecked/been battling cancer to the point where you had to stop performing? 2) Are you excited to get up on the stage and wreck like before? Or can your past fans and future fans both expect a Newer Dok?

DOkola/Witch DOkta:

I had to stop…or take a break after every surgery (I’ve had 4). I was doing alot of gigs with this Reggae band (Soulfiya & The Black Lung crew) but i could feel tha difference in my weight & breathing. I gotta be able to control my breathing & we were doin 4 hr shows. Noone really noticed but i did & i didn’t wanna hinder the band or sound so i’ve been on tha bench almost a yr now. After surgeries i’d be in pain for 2-3 months. The chemo they use has me in extreme pain, I don’t want to move…at all. This will be my first performance since my last surgery. I’m excited & kinda nervous.
We shall see what Dok they get… I definitely gotta go hard with the line up.

Conflict:

I have no doubt that you will homie. Between the strength in your struggle, and the strength in your songs, I’m looking forward to being a fan, welcoming you back.. Hell yeah!! Any words, comments, afflictions, or advice that you’d like to leave the Optimo Fans with?

And before I forget.. Tell em’ a little bit about Block Muzic..

DOkola/Witch Dokta:

I’m just a speaker for tha people…a voice for my island. Check out my muzik…hear my story! I represent Galveston Island…tha Mighty 409, G-County …we show alot of love to H-town artist…we..I just wanna a lil’ love back. You won’t be disappointed.. I promise that. Block Muzika is more of a organization of artist, producers, engineers, dj’s, graphic designers, tattoo artist, grafitti artist etc. etc… That I created with my own connects. Everything I got I earned. Paid alot of dues even interest cuz I’m Latino, my word is good. I believe in being honest with everyone. I don’t care if your more talented than me…if i can help you by introducing you to a dj, magazine owners, promoters whatever… I will. I’m trying to be a purveyor of good music. Music from my block to your block to their block… I wanna be that Block’s Muzik!

Conflict:

Bet that homie.. Can’t wait to hear the track, and I damn sure can’t wait til the 21st!

DOkola/Witch DOkta:

Me neither…i ain’t had fun inyears, lol, and thank you for the interview..

Conflict:
